She even has about twenty-five different versions of it!

Of course, kids had to have one. We thought we were cool with all that “money.” I remembered a lot of players wanted to be the banker. You are exactly right when you stated that the game is extremely long! I never realized it when I was playing at 8 years old that there wasn’t really any intellectual strategies to the game. But I have to admit that I have bought a couple of my grandkids this game. The makers of Monopoly were clever in making new themes of the game geared to whatever is popular at that time. For example: A Star Wars Monopoly Game went to a grandson around the time Star Wars was popular! Now though, some of the older games are collector’s items. Monopoly, in a way, is like LIFE. We just get up day after day – doing what we have to do. Growing up, buy a house or more that could take years! And sometimes, keep borrowing from the bank! Life catching us along the way at different intervals. Sometimes going to jail. Sometimes passing go! I think you get the picture! When I play, I would like a challenge.

You can coax people into shorter games by dropping hints or guidelines for how it’s played to win instead of played to safeguard one’s assets and stay in as long as possible by hopeless threads, but at the end of the day it’s still mostly about following the dice. Perhaps if landing on utilities and railroads gave you small tokens that you could hold in limited quantity, like +1 die to a roll, you could have a game that allows for some tiny bits of decision making in terms of where you go on the board.

I have a copy and haven’t played in years but one day I’ll play a game with my kids.

Yes, one of the cards is called “bag of kittens” which you can throw as a distraction to the horde. Terrible! 🙂

I also played “Escape Room The Game” and I had a lot of fun. I wanted to tell you about some new Escape Room games: Unloack and Escapoly. I tried them both but the second (escapoly) really impressed me, inside the envelope I found several real objects (I think handmade), it seems to live a real crime scene
Do you know any other games to recommend?
Thank you
Alex
